Kepler Laveran Lima Ferreira, better known as Pepe was born in Maceio, Brazil, on 26 February 1983. Although born in Brazil, Portugal Pepe obtain citizenship after playing in the Super League for more than five seasons with FC Porto and Maritimo.

Pepe joined Real Madrid on June 16, 2007 from FC Porto at a price of 30 million euros, making it one of the most expensive player in the world other than Rio Ferdinand (Manchester United).
